![]() There are three japanese voices that suck, and the rest are passable but forgettable. Normally I'd acknowledge that it's due to my prejudices that I don't like the voices, but in this case the japanese voice actors just didn't do a good job. ![]() Boring is the least fitting way to describe the first half of Steins gate in the dub. Now I think, they've definitely watched the sub. I've heard many people say the start of Steins gate is boring. Yeah I ended up with subs but I put it on hold, I just wasn't glued to it. I personally can't recommend the dubbed version of Steins gate. I'll admit, I'm pretty much a sub only person, except when the subbed sucks (FMA:B). In total, watch whatever you want to watch, people always have different preferences. I haven't made it very far in the dubbed so that may change, but at the point I'm at (episode 12) her character is essentially defined at this point. In the dubbed she is essentially snarky, sassy, and sarcastic. In the subbed she's timid mostly as she's still a young woman in this ridiculous field of highly intelligent people, but can flip on her guts like no one else can, in essence, she has different emotions. In the dubbed she's more stable it seems and is sarcastic sounding, which doesn't fit her character very well, that bring an essentially useless air-head who doesn't understand anything but also does. Mayuri in the subbed sounds very air~headed, and pretty much retarded, because she pretty much is. The english voice actor sounds like he could play a scientist, which is my main gripe, because Okabe isn't one. When I started the dubbed I was praying to the Funimation gods to please let him at least keep the laugh, but alass, I was wrong. Unfortunately I didn't get that from the dubbed. Makes him feel like a real chuunibyou but also gives a drastic change between the "organization is after me" moments and the serious ones to where it feels like there's an obvious difference between the two. The voice actor for Okabe in the subbed plays him practically identically to the vn (which is always appreciated) but asides that, he plays him so damn well. In my opinion I can't recommend the subbed enough. Both versions have such differing character portrayals it's like watching two different shows with the same story. Whichever you choose you'll be getting a completely different experience. Good job for deciding to watch it and sorry for such a late post.
